Eleven New Disney Legends to Be Honored at D23 Expo 2019

As we slowly get closer to another D23 Expo celebration in Anaheim, California this summer, this years’ Disney Legends inductees have officially been announced, and among them are some incredible talents. Joining the Disney Legend roster this year is Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man, Avengers: Endgame), Bette Midler (Hocus Pocus) James Earl Jones (Star Wars, The Lion King) Jon Favreau (Iron Man, The Lion King) Hans Zimmer (The Lion King, Pirates of the Caribbean) Kenny Ortega (High School Musical) Diane Sawyer and Robin Roberts (ABC News) Ming-Na Wen (Mulan, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D) and Imagineers Barnette Ricci and Wing Chao.

This roster of incredible talent will be joining the likes of previous Disney Legends like Jim Henson, Stan Lee, Gary Marshall, Robin Williams, Glen Keane, Tony Baxter, and Mark Hamill, just to name a few. Of course, all of these recipients have made significant contributions to The Walt Disney Company with their work, and all of them have provided instantly recognizable legacies to the heritage and culture of Disney across all of its subsidiaries.

“The Disney Legends Award is the highest honor we can bestow; it’s a recognition of talent, a celebration of achievement, and an expression of profound gratitude to the remarkable men and women who have made an indelible mark on our company and our creative legacy,” said Robert Iger, CEO of The Walt Disney Company. “This year’s honorees have earned a place in our hearts and our history for their significant contributions in film, television, and our theme parks around the world.”

The official Disney Legends ceremony will occur at this years’ D23 Expo in Anaheim, California, which takes place from August 23-25th.

Congratulations to this years’ honorees, and thank you for your contributions to Disney!

  1. I’m a bit disappointed about one omission: Where’s Tom Hanks? He’s been doing projects with Disney since “Splash” (1984).
