Today, Pixar announced the upcoming release of a brand new film, titled Soul, set to debut on June 19th, 2020 this morning. The announcement was published on Disney-Pixar’s official Facebook page today, describing the film as a “journey from the streets of New York City to the cosmic realms to discover the answers to life’s most important questions”. Soul is directed by two-time Academy-Award winning director and Pixar’s Chief Creative Officer, Pete Docter, written by C.S. Anderson, and produced by Dana Murray.
The release of Soul, follows the release of Pixar’s Onward set for release on March 6th, 2020, marking the first time since 2015 that would see the release of two Pixar theatrical films in one year. Recently, Pixar producer Mark Nielsen shared that all of Pixar’s upcoming releases are original and sequel-free, and it’s certainly exciting to see these ambitious new ideas take shape at Pixar in the upcoming years. It’s an exciting time for Pixar, animation, and creative ambition at The Walt Disney Company.
